What is our Purpose?

Difference-makers all face the same question: How can we initiate, drive, and sustain CHANGE in any of its forms – whether it be social change, behaviour change, policy change or, most challenging, system change?

‘We are all in this together and, we will find solutions together’.

The MASSIVE SMALL purpose is to reconcile the conflicts and release the potentials that exist between our top-down systems of government and the bottom-up needs of its citizens – to build a better urban society.

SO, our niche lies in where we integrate people, places, and politics with a social purpose and, how we can learn from these dynamics.

Our conversations will explore a different way to confront the challenges!  Whenever people take control over the places they live in, adapting them to their needs, they create conditions that are capable of future change.

When many people do this, it adds up to a fundamental shift. We call this ‘MAKING MASSIVE SMALL CHANGE’.

To make this change, we will explore with you:

·      bold new IDEAS to confront the change demanded;

·      innovative new TOOLS to facilitate this change; and,

·      smart new TACTICS to enable this different future

MASSIVE SMALL is the antidote to the big, single-vision, grand-plan, one-size-fits-all, soundbite-driven culture that predominates and, fails to deliver the type of change we all desperately want.

MASSIVE SMALL looks to change our reductionist thinking that treats the city as a ‘machine' - to rather see it as a complex adaptive system, capable of embracing the full spectrum of urban life.

MASSIVE SMALL shows how we can harness and scale up the collective power of many small ideas and actions from the bottom-up to make a big difference.

MASSIVE SMALL shows how we can lead with simple, clear purpose and principles by creating the enabling protocols, conditions and behaviours that foster the change we want.

MASSIVE SMALL has produced a number of thought-provoking books on the subject of urban change, with a particular focus on social purpose, civic leadership, urban professionalism, and collective citizen action.

We campaign

MASSIVE SMALL is campaign-based, showing governments, businesses and communities that there is a positive way forward if they work together to achieve the kind of change that any could ever achieve alone.

We influence

MASSIVE SMALL, using its THEORY approach, focuses its systems change efforts on urban research and development, government advice, and teaching across a wide spectrum of institutions and agencies.
